Thyroid (Anti-TPO) antibodies

Description: 
The immunoassay assay used by the laboratory tests for highly purified thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antigens. 75% - 90% of patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis have anti-TPO antibodies. The autoantibody is also present in 75% of patients with Graves’ disease and some 60% with postpartum thyroiditis. Anti-TPO may also be found in sub-clinical hypothyroidism (normal free T4 and elevated TSH) and autoimmune endocrinopathy.
