Epstein-barr Virus (EBV) Viral Load
Description:
Quantitative real -time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for the quantification of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) DNA in EDTA whole blood. Used to monitor transplant patients for primary or reactivated EBV infection and to elucidate suspected primary EBV infection in immunocompetent individuals. In very specific situations it can be used to monitor patients with EBV-associated tumours. This assay is available routinely Mon and Thurs.

Storage and transport:
Place labelled sample in a sealed sample bag and send to Central Specimen Reception (CSR). Samples should be sent to CSR promptly as the sensitivity of assays that detect RNA/DNA depend on sample quality/integrity. Please store samples in a refrigerator if there is a delay in sending samples to CSR.
