Description: 
Sample sent to PHE Colindale RVPBRU referral laboratory for Diphtheria serology testing. Used to determine immunity status. This may help in the investigation of defects of humoral immunity or following immunosuppression. This assay is available routinely Mon to Fri.
Clinical details: 
Diptheria is a rare condition in developed countries with successful vaccination program but remains a significant problem with high mortality in developing countries.
Reference range: 

antitoxin<0.01 IU/mL = susceptibility, 0.01-0.09 IU/mL = basic protection >or = 0.1 IU/mL = full protection

Sample type and Volume required: 
2.5 – 5ml Yellow Top Serum Separation Tube (SST) Clotted Blood (for serum).
Turnaround time: 
14 working days
Storage and transport: 
Place labelled sample in a sealed sample bag and send to Central Specimen Reception (CSR). To prevent sample haemolysis please store samples in refrigerator if a delay in sending samples to CSR is unavoidable.
