Troponin T

Description:
Immunoassay for the quantitative determination of cardiac troponin T in human serum.
Clinical details:
<13 ng/L - Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is unlikely (Only repeat after 12 hours if symptomatic, multiple risk factors or sample <12 hours from onset)
13 - 30 ng/L - Possible ACS / Myocardial infarction (MI) (Repeat after 12 hours, refer to full chest pain protocol)
>30 ng/L ACS / MI likely (Refer to Cardiology)

Notes:
1. Patients with detectable troponin-T (3 - 13 ng/L) are at increased risk of future CVD events
2. Detectable troponin-T may be found in non-ischaemic chest pain e.g. stroke, cardiac failure, pulmonary embolus, sepsis, myocarditis, Tako-Tsubo cardiomyopathy, significant arrhythmias and severe exercise.
3. Patients with severely impaired renal function will show higher baseline levels and decreased clearance of troponin-T. Serial measurements may be useful to detect a changing level.
