Clinical details:
Sandfly fever, (Papataci or 3 day fever) causes a self limiting acute febrile illness of 2 - 4 days and is endemic in the Mediterranean and east to Pakistan and India. It is caused by one of 2 serotypes of Phlebovirus (Naples or Sicilian) and is spread by Phlebotomine sandflies. Most commonly recognised when large groups of non-immune individuals move to an endemic area e.g. the military. It is important to consider other causes of fever in a returning traveler particularly malaria. Please call to discuss any additional testing as required.
