Intrinsic Factor Antibody

Description: 
In addition to anti-gastric parietal cell antibody another autoantibody is present in up to 70% of individuals with pernicious anemia, anti-intrinsic factor (IF) antibody. Two types of anti-IF are described; one blocks the binding of vitamin B12 to intrinsic factor and the other binds to intrinsic factor and intrinsic factor vitamin B12 complex preventing absorption of the vitamin.
