Description: 
Sample sent to PHE Colindale VRD referral laboratory for intrathecal antibodies to Herpes Simplex virus (HSV), Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV), Measles, Rubella or JC virus. Intrathecal production of antibodies to HSV, VZV or JC Virus may be useful in retrospective diagnosis of respective central nervous system (CNS) infections. This referral request must be sent with paired serum and CSF samples. Discuss with the virology SpR on x83140 in advance. Note: If using Electronic Patient Record (EPR) please order "Infection Serum: acute/convalescent/save" and "CSF for Virological Investigations".

500 ul serum or 2.5 – 5ml Yellow Top Serum Separation Tube (SST) Clotted Blood (for serum) and paired Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) in a sterile universal container with no additives.

Up to 4 weeks
Storage and transport: 
Place labelled sample in a sealed sample bag and send to Central Specimen Reception (CSR). To prevent sample haemolysis please store samples in refrigerator if a delay in sending samples to CSR is unavoidable.
