Description: 
Sample sent to Leeds Teaching Hospital Mycology referral laboratory for fungal serology. This request covers quantification of antibodies to a range of fungal pathogens. Please call the clincal team on x83100 to discuss the case and the most appropriate tests and samples. Testing can be arranged for Candida, Histoplasma, Blastomycosis, Coccidiomycosis and Paracoccidiomycosis. Please see separate test for Aspergillus antibody. This is NOT the test to request if require fungal antigens (e.g. galactomannan or beta D glucan). This assay is available routinely Mon to Fri.
Clinical details: 
Fungal pathogens can cause a range of acute and chronic disease states. Serological testing may be helpful in diagnosis and minitoring.
Synonyms or keywords: 
Histoplasma, Blastomycosis, Coccidioidomycosis, and Paracoccidioidomycosis
Sample type and Volume required: 
2.5 – 5ml Yellow Top Serum Separation Tube (SST) Clotted Blood (for serum). Other sample types may be needed / suitable depending on the suspected disease.

14 working days
Storage and transport: 
Place labelled sample in a sealed sample bag and send to Central Specimen Reception (CSR). To prevent sample haemolysis please store samples in refrigerator if a delay in sending samples to CSR is unavoidable.
