Microbiology will perform quantitative total viable bacterial counts on Hydrotherapy Pool Water, these samples should be received by the laboratory by Wednesday morning to allow final reports to be issued in the same week. Splint bath water is occasionally received. Turn around time is 2 days. Note: This test is not UKAS accredited

Sample type and Volume required: 
500 ml Hydrotherapy pool water neutralised with sodium thiosulphate supplied by Laboratory.
500 ml Splint bath water (neutralisation is not required).

Contact Laboratory (extn 83111) for supply of containers and sodium thiosulphate (neutralising additive).
Turnaround time: 
2 days
Special sample instructions: 

Hydrotherapy pools screened on a weekly basis. Contact Laboratory (extn 83111) for supply of containers and sodium thiosulphate (neutralising additive).

Storage and transport: 
Use containers with sodium thiosulphate (neutralising additive) supplied by Microbiology (extn. 83111). Place labelled sample in a sealed sample bag and send to Central Specimen Reception (CSR). Samples should be refrigerated if transport to the laboratory is delayed.
