Description: 
Sample sent to PHE Colindale RVPBRU referral laboratory for anti-pertussis toxin IgG testing. Samples should be taken >2 weeks after cough onset for any individuals with a history of prolonged cough. Following vaccination, the anti-toxin IgG may be elevated above the reference range.
Clinical details: 
Whooping cough is a highly infectious disease. The coughing symptoms can last for months. Severe complications requiring hospitalisation occur most commonly in infants under six months of age. Please discuss possible cases with the local health protection unit or an infection doctor. Genome detection via. PCR may be more appropriate in acute infections.

2.5 – 5ml Yellow Top Serum Separation Tube (SST) Clotted Blood (for serum).

Storage and transport: 
Place labelled sample in a sealed sample bag and send to Central Specimen Reception (CSR). To prevent sample haemolysis please store samples in refrigerator if a delay in sending samples to CSR is unavoidable.
