Streptococcal Serology
Description:
This serologic test is for antibodies to DNase B and streptolysin O (ASOT). Clinical indications typically include the investigation of rheumatic fever and glomerulonephritis.
Clinical details:
A rise in ASOT between acute and convalescent sera provides supportive evidence of recent streptococcal infection.
Reference range:
Interpretation of ASOT titre depends upon patient demographics. Where diagnostic uncertainty persists, please discuss with an infection specialist

2.5 – 5ml Yellow Top Serum Separation Tube (SST) Clotted Blood (for serum).

Send both acute and convalescent samples.
Storage and transport:
Place labelled sample in a sealed sample bag and send to Central Specimen Reception (CSR). To prevent sample haemolysis please store samples in refrigerator if a delay in sending samples to CSR is unavoidable.
