Anti Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody (ANCA) (MPO & PR3)

Description:
Anti-MPO (myeloperoxidase) and PR(proteinase)3 assays are performed on serum which are ANCA positive by indirect immunofluorescence. There may also be clinical grounds for performing these investigations on ANCA negative sera as ANCA negative but anti-MPO/PR3 positive vasculitis can occur.

Anti-MPO is primarily associated with pauci-immune crescentic glomerulonephritis, eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangitis (Churg-Strauss syndrome) and microscopic polyangiitis. Anti-PR3 is associated with granulomatosis with polyangitis (Wegener’s granulomatosis). However, the fore mentioned associations are not exclusive.

anti MPO antibodies <3.5
anti PR3 antibodies <1.9
