Adenovirus Viral Load

This test is referred to another lab outside our network
This does not affect where samples are sent and where your results are issued.
Description:
Sample sent to King's College Hospital (KCH) referral laboratory for quantitative molecular testing for Adenovirus DNA from EDTA blood (for whole blood or plasma). This assay is available routinely Mon to Fri.
Clinical details:
Patients with compromised immune systems are especially susceptible to severe complications of adenovirus infection. Quantitative adenovirus load determination may help guide the need for and monitoring of treatment. Refer to local guidance.
Synonyms or keywords:
Adenovirus
Units:
DNA Copies per milliliter (c/mL)
Sample type and Volume required:
4-9ml Purple Top EDTA blood (for whole blood or plasma). Note: If using Electronic Patient Record (EPR) please order "Sample for Molecular Investigations".
Turnaround time:
7 working days
Storage and transport:
Place labelled sample in a sealed sample bag and send to Central Specimen Reception (CSR). Samples should be sent to CSR promptly as the sensitivity of assays that detect RNA/DNA depend on sample quality/integrity. Please store samples in a refrigerator if there is a delay in sending samples to CSR.
