cerner.jpgWe have today announced that we have awarded a seven year contract to Cerner UK to deliver and host our PathNet laboratory information management system for our flagship services with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The move will see a phased implementation set to commence in 2014.

Cerner will provide the full suite of its PathNet functionality across Blood Sciences, Cellular Pathology, Blood Transfusion and Microbiology to Viapath.

Cerner’s PathNet improves the quality of patient care through the streamlined tracking and routing of specimens, the electronic communication of test results, and the verification of key patient demographics to ensure specimen-patient match.  The solution will be hosted by Cerner to ensure exemplary system performance, uptime resilience and data security.

Commenting on the announcement, Richard Jones, Viapath Chief Executive, said:

“After a competitive tender, we chose Cerner’s PathNet system as it represents the best strategic fit for our current needs at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and our ambitions for growth in the UK. The new system will allow us to continually improve the quality of our pathology services whilst delivering them efficiently and at scale. This partnership shows our commitment to ensure our pathology services make use of the best technology available to drive improvements in clinical performance and patient care.”

Emil Peters, Vice President and Managing Director, Cerner Limited added:

“We are delighted to be partnering with Viapath to help provide such an important service to the NHS and its patients.  Given our long history of supporting pathology in the UK, we look forward to this exciting next chapter and working closely with GSTS to successfully deploy our world class laboratory solutions to improve the quality and efficiency of their operation.”
